How to import a test template from CSV

Import a complete reusable test template in one step instead of creating every FAT, SAT, ATP, commissioning, maintenance or custom test item manually.

Quick answer

Open Testing, select Upload test template CSV, download the example CSV, replace the sample rows with your own test items, upload the file, review the preview and select Create test template from CSV. One CSV file creates one reusable test template and each data row becomes one test item.

Before you begin

You need permission to manage test templates. Prepare one CSV file for each test template you want to create. A single file can contain up to 500 test items.

  • Use one template name throughout the file.
  • Use one template type throughout the file.
  • Keep the CSV column headings unchanged.
  • Add one data row for each test item.

Step 1 — Open Testing

Open the Testing area from the application navigation. Users with permission to manage templates will see Upload test template CSV near the template controls.

Step 2 — Open the CSV import page

The import page explains the complete workflow. The important rule is simple: one CSV file creates one reusable test template. Every data row in that file becomes an individual test item inside the template.

Step 3 — Download and edit the example CSV

Select Download CSV example and open the file in Excel, Numbers or another spreadsheet editor. Replace the sample rows with the test procedure you want to import.

CSV column reference

The importer reads the following columns. Keeping these headings exactly as shown makes the file easier to validate and reuse.

template_nameThe name of the reusable test template. Repeat the same name on every data row.
template_typeFAT, SAT, ATP, Commissioning, Maintenance or Custom. Repeat the same type on every data row.
sectionOptional grouping for related test items, such as Pre-checks, Power, Network or Close-out.
test_nameThe individual test item name. This field is required.
instructionsThe procedure or action the engineer should perform.
expected_valueThe expected result or passing criteria.
unitOptional measurement unit such as V, dBm, °C or ms.
requiredUse true or false. If left blank, the item is treated as required.

Step 4 — Upload the CSV and review the preview

Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file, return to the import page and select the file. Valtoroq checks the headings and displays a preview before anything is created.

Confirm that the template name, type, sections, test names and required status look correct. If the preview is wrong, correct the CSV before importing it.

Step 5 — Create the test template

Select Create test template from CSV. After the import finishes, the application opens the newly created template so you can review the complete set of test items.

Supported test template types

FAT

Factory Acceptance Testing before shipment or site deployment.

SAT

Site Acceptance Testing after installation in the delivered environment.

ATP

Acceptance Test Procedure templates used for formal verification and sign-off.

Commissioning

Operational checks performed during system commissioning.

Maintenance

Reusable checks for periodic maintenance and service activity.

Custom

A reusable template for procedures that do not fit the standard testing stages.

Common CSV import problems

The CSV says a required column is missing.

Download a fresh example CSV and compare the column headings. The required headings include template_name, template_type and test_name.

The importer says the template names do not match.

One CSV creates one test template, so every data row must use the same template_name value.

The importer says the template types do not match.

Every data row in the file must use the same template_type. Create separate CSV files for different testing stages.

A test row will not import.

Make sure the row contains a test_name and that the field lengths are reasonable. Remove empty or accidental rows at the end of the spreadsheet.

Can one CSV contain more than 500 test items?

No. A single import supports up to 500 test rows. Split larger procedures into separate reusable templates.

Continue with testing

After the template is created, use it to start a test run against the correct project, site and system. Results, failures, issues, retests and approvals can then remain connected to the same delivery record.
